What We Do / Urgent Appeals

HWW aims to build solidarity with homebased workers around the world. We sometimes make specific appeals for support in the form of letters, petitions or donations.

If you are a homeworker or an organisation of homeworkers or working with homeworkers, and you have a specific appeal that you feel would benefit from our support, please email us at: info@homeworkersww.org.uk. For example, we may be able to support an appeal that relates to a company in the UK or the EU.

Tsunami Appeal

In January 2005, HWW launched an appeal for money to be given to Read Foundation, Pudukkottai, to help their work with people affected by the tsunami along the coast of Tamilnadu, in the South of India.

Members of the Read Foundation and Pasumai Federation were active in giving immediate support to victims of the tsunami in nearby coastal areas.

Following collecting immediate relief, they carried out an investigation in fishing villages in the coastal areas of Pudukkottai.

Money donated through HWW was handed over to help with a programme of Self Help Groups for the women in these areas. Many women work mending fishing nets or drying and selling fish. They were given grants and loans to help them earn a living again. In addition, informal schools were set up for the children, many of whom did not go to the local schools.
