Viji Fellowship Scheme
Viji Srinivasan was the founder of Adithi, an umbrella organisation based in Patna, Bihar, India. Adithi works with thousands of women and girls in rural areas of Bihar and Jharkhand.
From the late 1990s, Viji collaborated closely with HWW and was our regional coordinator in South Asia. Sadly, Viji died in June 2005.
Viji fought all her life for women's liberation and was enthusiastic about supporting young women leaders. In the course of our joint work, she proposed sending young women from India and Nepal for an extended visit to the UK. Young women leaders spent several months in Leeds; worked in the UK office of HWW; studied English language and computers and took part in a range of activities.
In the summer of 2006, Manasi Samaddar, from Adithi Dumra, came to UK and spent time working with us, with support from the Lipman-Miliband Trust.
For more information on the fellowship programmes in 2004 and 2005, see 'Stitching Stories' in the Resources section of this site.
