Social Security
Most homeworkers are working informally. This means that they are not covered by minimum wages and rarely have regular work.
At the same time, it means they have no protection for times of sickness, maternity or old age. For dependent workers, if their intermediary or subcontractor has no orders, they have no work and so no income. Own-account workers need to find raw materials and markets to sell their products and are often forced to accept low prices. Both kinds of homebased workers have no income if they are sick or at other times when they cannot work.
In addition to the demand for minimum wages and regular work, a key demand for homebased workers is full social protection.
Most homebased workers have to pay for their healthcare and are not entitled to a pension when they are old.
This is a key demand from the Federation of HomeWorkers Worldwide
