UK Homeworker triumphs at Employment Appeals Tribunal

Pamela James, home-based courier and National Group on Homeworking member, has won at Appeal in her long-running minimum wage battle.
An Employment Tribunal found that Pamela James, who works from home as a courier delivering mail-order parcels, was self-employed and therefore not entitled to the national minimum wage. But Pamela was determined to fight this decision and an Employment Appeals Tribunal has decided her case should be looked at again.
When a decision made at an Employment Tribunal is appealed, the outcome is extremely important because it sets a legal precedent which can effect how other workers’ cases will be decided. So the appeal decision is good news for Pamela, but it is also good news for other homeworkers who may be able to use similar arguments to strengthen their own cases to be recognised as workers and not as self-employed
