A new report by Sisters For Change and Munnade has found that 1 in 7 women workers in garment factories in Bengalaru, India has been forced either to commit a sexual act or to have sexual intercourse and 1 in 14 has experienced physical violence in the workplace. 80% of women garment workers report their health and safety is at risk because of working conditions and 1 in 4 feel unsafe at work.
In 90% of cases, the perpetrators are male supervisors or managers.
The report makes practical recommendations to improve protection for women from sexual harassment at the workplace.
