For many young women in Southern India the textiles and garments industry provides a vital source of employment. But the price they pay for earning a wage can be years of harsh conditions that damage their health, a loss of freedom and even abuse.
Our RAGs project, funded by DfID, aims to give a voice to these women and to tackle the industry’s apathy for the conditions of its workforce. We are partnering with Women Workers Worldwide and our in-country partners SAVE and Read Foundation to tackle the issue, raising awareness of women’s rights, helping them organise into groups to stand up for themselves, and exploring the role of the garment industry in safeguarding its supply chains.
We have recently uploaded a photo presentation detailing this work which is available on the Grassroots Projects section of our website
