This Autumn Jane Tate from Homeworkers Worldwide visited homeworkers in Petrich, Bulgaria to discover how women are working and surviving through the economic crisis.
Bulgaria is the poorest country in the EU and has been particularly badly affected by the economic collapse in neighbouring Greece. Women in Bulgaria are combining homework - such as stiching shoes and assembling bags - with agricultural work and other informal jobs to make ends meet.
Our full report details the challenges these women face, their strategies for survival and what changes are needed at a national and EU level to better support women in informal and precarious work.
