Al Garthwaite
Director of Vera Media, Leeds, UK; Chair of HWW
Alison (Al) Garthwaite BA, MA, DMS, PGCE, has co-directed her own community-based social enterprise, Vera Media, for twenty one years. Vera Media has produced several films about homeworking and organised photo-exhibitions and exhibits of homeworkers’ work. Al has extensive experience of working with women, community outreach and participatory production, and of the public and NGO sectors. She is a trustee or board member of seven other NGOs, including the Feminist Archive, New Working Ways (formerly New Working Women) and the West Yorkshire Learning Consortium. Al is a founder member of the HWW Trust.
Linda Devereux
Director of NGH, the National Group on Homeworking, Leeds, UK
Linda Devereux. MBE, is Director of the National Group on Homeworking (NGH), the only national group campaigning for homeworkers in the UK. Linda has been active in the movement for homeworkers’ rights for many years, initially working in West Yorkshire and later with NGH. Linda has represented homeworkers in the UK in the Ethical Trading Initiative and has experience of working with a range of other organisations including trade unions, Oxfam and other national and international bodies. Linda has experience of managing a voluntary organisation including finances and fund-raising.
Ruth Pearson
Professor of Development Studies at Leeds University, UK
Ruth Pearson jointed the Board of Trustees when she became head of the Centre for Development Studies at the University of Leeds in 2000. She has been involved in international solidarity and research on women workers in the global economy since the 1970s. Her current work is focused on migrant factory workers in Mexico, Thailand and the UK; in the context of broader research on entitlements, identity and citizenship in an increasingly informalised labour market and flexibilisation of international supply chains. She is also interested in social economy innovations including community currencies and financial services. She has considerable experience of management of voluntary sector organisations in the UK and internationally, currently or previously serving on the boards of War on Want, WEETU (the Women's Employment Enterprise and Training Unit, WHISS (Women's Health Information Support Services and AWID (the Association of Women's Rights in Development).
Anne-Marie Delettrez
Director of IGRECA, Training Organisation, Portugal
Anne Marie Delettrez is an economist currently living in Lisbon, Portugal. Anne Marie has experience of working in Mozambique and Nicaragua and has more recently concentrated on research and advocacy around homeworking issues in Portugal. She is an active member of the European Homeworking Group. She also has extensive experience in training and evaluation in Portugal.
Lucy Brill
Researcher, Todmorden, UK
Lucy Brill is a Research Fellow at the International Centre for Participation Studies within the Department of Peace Studies at Bradford University. Lucy’s doctoral thesis explored the situation of homeworkers within a globalising world, focusing specifically on homeworkers, and the organisations working with them, in the UK and Chile. Lucy also has practical experience of working with homeworker organisations both in the UK and in Chile.
